China, Officially the People’s Republic of India is a sovereign state located in East Asia. It is the world's most populous country, with a population of over 1.35 billion with its seat of government in the capital city of Beijing.
Covering approximately 9.6 million square kilometers, China is the world's second-largest country by land area. It exercises jurisdiction over 22 provinces, five autonomous regions, four direct-controlled municipalities (Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai, and Chongqing), and two mostly self-governing special administrative regions (Hong Kong and Macau).
China, a neighbouring country to India is the fastest developing country in the world, touted to become a super power before the end of the decade. This is a result of the massive infrastructure development by the Chinese government, which decentralized development pathways into all sectors with high priority to education.
The quality of Chinese medical universities is overseen by the Ministry of Education, which on an annual basis approves selective universities to recruit limited number of international students, keeping in mind the infrastructure requirements. Hence all Chinese Universities approved by MoE are acceptable by quality and are a wise destination for any student aspiring to study medicine.
The Chinese government has entrusted most of its research institutions with the universities, offering ample opportunities for students to undergo research based studies. There are 1,700 research institutions of natural sciences run by universities, 220 research institutes and 540 research centers of social sciences,400 key disciplines and 99 national laboratories. It goes without saying that institutions of higher learning have been playing as important role in China's scientific research and hence its economy.
The course duration for MBBS programs in China is 6 years inclusive of the 1 year internship, that can be done either in China / in India.
The Ministry of Education – MoEannually recognizes a selective group of universities from China to recruit limited number of International Students. The process is to ensure that the universities have enough facilities and infrastructure to provide complete medical education to the students.

Most Universities in China offer scholarships for performing students at the end of each academic year, on the basis of the student’s performance. The evaluation for scholarships is based on the final examination result, ordinary academic records, daily individual performance and other extracurricular activities. Every student has the opportunity to obtain this scholarship as long as he/she has made a genuine effort in his/her studies. The number of scholarships available is quite high that more than half of the student groups receive one.
Provisional Government Scholarships
China's provincial and municipal governments also offer scholarships for international students pursuing degree and non-degree education in local universities.
Applicants should submit their applications to My MBBS Abroad team at the time of their application to the MBBS course. The respective university will review each scholarship application and then submit it to the local government for further review.
These are few provincial / municipal bodies’ scholarship programs in China that are open to international students:
Most Chinese medical universities have a single intake in the month of August / September and few have 2 intakes a year in August-September-October and February-March-April.
Applications have to be filed with My MBBS Abroad team at least 2-4 months prior to the course start date of the universities. My MBBS Abroad team would process the applications with suitable universities and gain admissions for the students.
China offers an “X Visa” for international students who gain an admission into any approved Chinese institution. My MBBS Abroad team would assist the students in getting all necessary documentation for the same and coordinate with immigration authorities and universities
